About Logs

The Nakisa AdminConsole Logs page allows users to view the CDS log, which records application and database errors. The main viewing window in the Logs page displays the tail of the CDS log, so to see the most recent entries, scroll to the bottom of the viewing area. Nakisa HR Suite stores the last 100,000 lines in the log, but Nakisa HR Suite will stop adding new lines temporarily if you scroll up in the logging window to view prior messages.

Nakisa HR Suite creates a new log when the current log reaches 25 MB in size, and the application keeps up to 1000 MB (i.e., 40 logs). Administrators can also create new logs manually. When a new file is created, the previous one is renamed to cds.log.x, where x is a number (the oldest log is numbered 1).

To view logs:

  1. Select Logs from the Main Menu. The Log View opens in a separate tab.
  2. Click the Application Log tab, if it is not already selected.
  1. Select the desired log from the View Log drop-down and click Export Selected.
  2. Click Export All to download all of the logs available.
  3. Click Refresh View to display the latest information.
  4. Click Clear View to clear the Application Log and display a fresh screen.

To change the logging levels of a service:

  1. Select Logs from the Main Menu.
  2. Click the Logger Settings tab.
  3. Find the service you want to change (you can enter part of the name in the Name field at the top of the services list, if needed), then select the logging level in its Level drop-down. The logging level options available are:
    • FATAL: Designates very severe error events that can likely lead the application to abort.
    • ERROR: An error referencing a task signals a condition that might prevent the task from completing successfully, depending on the setting of other parameters. Errors indicate that administrative action is needed.
    • WARN: References tasks that signal a condition that does not prevent the completion of the task, but might indicate that some action is needed on behalf of the administrator. These could be potentially harmful situations.
    • INFO: Informational messages indicate when normal situations occur, for example, when a user logs in.
    • DEBUG: Designates fine-grained informational events that are most useful to debug an application.
    • TRACE: Captures information used to debug, but at a more granular level than the DEBUG information level.
    • ALL: Records all levels including custom levels
    • OFF: No logging is done.
  4. Select the logger type AsynchLogger or Logger as appropriate to your task. AsynchLogger is typically much faster, but there are occasions when Logger is appropriate, such as some error handling instances and when CPU resources are scarce.
  5. Certain errors log a bog stack trace to the lines of code that were touched in the process that threw the error, which can result in hundreds of lines logged. To limit the error to the top 5-6 lines, select the Truncate Stack Traces checkbox.

To add logging to a new service:
