Sync a Scenario

Syncing a scenario updates it with the latest data from the source system while preserving the changes made within the scenario. This helps ensure that the scenario reflects the most current source data while retaining the work already completed in the scenario.

Users can also update the scenario key date as part of the sync process. The sync process identifies differences between the source data and the scenario, including conflicts and non-conflicting changes.

Key behavior:

  • The system compares the scenario data with the latest data from the source system.
  • Existing scenario changes are retained where possible.
  • If conflicts occur between scenario changes and source updates:
    • The system prioritizes maintaining scenario modifications.
    • Updated fields from the source system are applied only where no conflict exists.
  • New objects from the source system are added to the scenario.
  • Deleted objects in the source system are removed from the scenario..

To sync a scenario:

  1. Open the scenario you want to sync. On the Overview tab, the Scenario Information includes the Key Date (the date when the scenario changes are planned to take effect), and Sync Date (the last time the scenario was synced with the source data).
  2. Click Manage data. The Data Management tab appears, outlining a four-step process to sync the scenario.
  3. In the first step, "Modify key date", you have the option to update the Key Date for the scenario. Note that to change the key date, you must complete the sync process to finalize that change.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. The "Review and Resolve Conflicts step lists field conflicts, the source data and the scenario both changed the same field to different values. The table shows the original, incoming source, and scenario values.
    1. For each conflict, select whether the scenario should keep the Incoming Source Value or the Scenario Value.
    2. After reviewing and resolving the list of conflicts, click Continue.
  6. On the "Verify and submit changes" step, review the summary of updates that will be applied to the scenario. This includes both conflict records, showing whether we selected the incoming source value or the scenario value, as well as all non-conflicting updates.
  7. Click Execute Sync.
  8. In the confirmation dialog, click Execute Sync again to proceed.
  9. The final step is the "Sync Report", which lists the updated Key Date (if applicable) with the most recent sync date.
